A campaign amongst the Irish language community has been initiated to generate interest in the concept of the foundation of new Irish speaking settlements. The aim of the newly established language group BAILE is to secure a bright future for the Irish Language by establishing new settlements in which Irish is the primary community language. BAILE, comprised of Irish speakers from all over Ireland, has begun a national campaign to inform Irish speakers - as well as all other interested parties - of this pioneering concept and financial support has been obtained from the cross-border language body Foras na Gaeilge to conduct a feasibility study into the establishment of new Irish-speaking communities. BAILE believe that the future of the language cannot be secured without new communities in which Irish is used as the primary means of communication. As part of BAILE's research process, a number of focus groups will be held in Dublin, Belfast and Dundalk later in the summer and a questionnaire is also available online at www.bailegaelach.comBAILE ask all those interested in the project to contact them by email on eolas@bailegaelach. com or by phone on (+353) 872303289.
