This is a not a surprise to us living in reality but to those who rule the world it must be shocking to learn that that you are allowed to revoke POW status of prisoners of war (without grounds) and then not allowed to court martial them. Confused?
The US Government captured prisoners of their war on terror (which took place in Iraq and Afghanistan among many other countries both legally and (mainly) illegally under international law). They took them away to camp X-Ray in Guantanamo bay (in a foreign country) and basically bended every rule in the book to avoid giving the prisoners POW status by also labelling them ‘Unlawful Combatants’.
They, then, wanted to try them in a military court. POW status of prisoners gives them the right to try them in a military court, as far as I know, but the US government hoped that labelling the prisoners ‘unlawful combatants’ would confuse the system and they would get away with even more torture. Surprisingly some US judge said no and now they’re up a certain creak without a paddle.
But don’t worry, I’m sure the Bush Administration will come up with some other way to finish off these working class people, who to this day have yet to be tried for any crime and some of who are British and US citizens who were shamelessly kidnapped from their homes and brought to a far off country to be tortured and imprisoned for months and years without any reason what-so-ever. Oh how ‘great’ our rulers are, oh how lucky we are to live in countries where our citizens can be kidnapped by a foreign Government and murdered, tortured, disappeared without any reason or question by anyone.
Michael McDowell (Irish Minister for Justice) recently signed an agreement with the US government giving them the right to kidnap Irish citizens from their beds if they suspect said citizens of being a terrorist and have the same treatment, as those in Guantanamo bay, put upon them. Not a whimper from the media or the Irish people. I’m just wondering how long we have to wait for it to happen and it WILL happen. Well there’s your capitalist democracy! Will you speak out or will we have to wait until it happens to you or your family?
