The families of the 29 Saharawi hunger striking political prisoners ask for help
Monday, 11 September 2006
El Aaiun (occupied territories), (SPS) The families of the 29 Saharawi political prisoners in hunger strike since September the 4 and the 5th in the Moroccan prisons, launched an urgent appeal asking for the help all parties and people concerned about justice to help their sons "who are dying little by little under the complete indifference of the Moroccan authorities of occupation". Been convinced of the legitimacy of the demands of their sons, these families called on the Moroccan Government to "immediately and unconditionally release" all the Saharawi political prisoners and human rights activists in the Carcel Negra (the Black Jail in the occupied city of El Aaiun, and in the local prisons of the Moroccan cities of Inzegan and Ait Melloul, according to a pres release publicised by the families on Friday, of which SPS received a copy.
They also asked Morocco to open "a direct dialogue with the Saharawi political prisoners, and to answer their requests as political prisoners", the text added.
On another hand, the families denounced the heavy sentences that go from 1 year to 6, which were recently pronounced by the Moroccan court of appeal in Agadir against four Saharawi political prisoners.
The families finally called on international human rights organisations, political forces and medias over the world to "exercise pressures" on Morocco so as to compel it respond to the legitimate demands of the hunger striking Saharawi political prisoners, the press release concluded.
