The IRSP in Andersonstown have erected a mural in memory of INLA Volunteers Brendan McNamee and Miriam Daly, both of whom were murdered by British imperialism operating under the cloak of local organisations. Brendan McNamee was murdered in 1975 after he defected from the Provisional IRA during the 1975 ceasefire. He was shot in the back outside the Hunting Lodge club by the Provisionals to stem any further defections from their organisation. It is perhaps telling that Brendan McNamee had been searched shortly before to determine whether he was armed or not. Miriam Daly had been a lecturer at Queens University and had been active within the IRSP and the mounting H-Block / Armagh Campaign, amongst a catalog of other political work. Miriam was a distinguished leader in her field of political work. She was murdered at her home on the Andersonstown Road by the SAS operating under the guise of the UDA. It is widely believed Miriam’s murder was a retaliatory action for the killing of Shadow Secretary of State for the north Airey Neave at the Palace of Westminster in London by the INLA. Speaking on the completion of the mural Gerard Foster said “Although we had been fighting against the elements over recent months, we’ve completed a fitting tribute to our murdered comrades. It is important that we keep their memories alive and prevent the historical revisionism that we currently see coming into play time and time again by those who would rather see the IRSM airbrushed from history.” andersonstownirsp.wordpress.com/
