Leftist magazine to be promoted in city
New-look republican magazine set to hit shelves

A subscription campaign for Left Republican Review, a new radical magazine, is being launched tonight in Belfast. The event, which will take place at 7pm in An Chultúrlann, on the Falls Road, is the first of a series of public events in advance of the relaunch of the magazine in March.
Left Republican Review first hit the streets in 2000, and ran for five issues through until 2001. During the past year the magazine’s editorial board have been working away behind the scenes, according to the publications editor, Eoin Ó Broin, “developing a business plan, the aim of which is to transform the publication from an amateur labour of love into a commercially viable, not-for- profit enterprise”.
In January of this year, a new publishing company, Left Republican, opened its doors in North Belfast.
The new company aims to publish six editions of Left Republican Review, and two books, a year.
The books will be produced in conjunction with Pluto Press in London, the first being Denis O’Hearn’s biography of Bobby Sands, Nothing but an unfinished song, which is due to be launched in Belfast on March 9, in St Mary’s College.
Speaking to Daily Ireland, Ó Broin explained the project. “Left Republican Review is an independent political platform bringing together left, republican, feminist and green voices from across Ireland in a spirit of open dialogue,” said Ó Broin, “We aim to provide a space for all shades of progressive opinion in Ireland and to provoke discussion on political, economic, strategic and organisational issues.”
