First and foremost is was important the march was halted. But I do not think there was any need for the vandalism and looting by some individuals.

I personally thaught there would be allot more banners/posters showing the sectarian nature of "loveulster" and a greater effort to debunk there theory of "victimhood".But that was obviously not to happen,i seen maybe a handfull of posters,it didnt look like allot of work went into the planning of this aspect of the counter-protest!
Im sure no republican agrees with the anarchy that happened on that day,the local youths pouring out of the pubs wrecking the place for the sake of it,robbing cars/people.beating foriegn nationals.
But do you not think that to the people who organised this counter-protest it would have been obvious that that would happen, especially in dublin city centre on a saturday morning,do you think it was worth the bad publicity all republicans will get?
Do you think it could have been better planned not to include the random thugs which joined in?
Even if you agree that the protest should have been blocked,do you not think they could have taken a more peacefull approach, there are ways of doing this, one is a peacefull sitdown protest, along with the singing of "we shall not be moved".if that was the option choosen then 1000 republicans sitting still with locked arms singing peacefully would have looked far more respectable than young lads ripping dublin apart and settign fire to Irish peoples cars.If the 1000 protesters were all sitting peacefully then the garda would have to make the first move, even if the same response happened after the garda moved in on the sitting protesters it would not have looked so random as it does now.
My question really is,do you not think the counter-protest could have been better planned to try limit the damage to republicans?

Why were people wearing Celtic jerseys?! That just builds the myth of Celtic as a sectarian team, considering the way the media and OO painted the situation. We have to be on top of these things.
I wouldn't be surprised if the protest was taken over by neo-nationalist scumbags masquerading as 'Republicans'. The media have had a field day painting Republicans as scumbags with no morals and biased and contradictory ideals. I wasn't there and I'm very glad I didn't go considering what went on.
What went on yesterday does no good for Republicans or our cause. I understand we are fighting a major propaganda war with the Right wing but if we want to build support for Republicanism and Socialism in Ireland, we need to show people that the cause is in their interest (which it is) and fighting against the Gardaí isn't really the way to do that.
I'm very glad the march didn't go ahead as I would never like to see fascists such as Willie Frazier marching any streets let alone Dublin. This wasn't a protestant march, it was a march of Orange Order Supremacy using the victims of violence as an excuse to wield their power over others and validating their 'right' to do so.
Fascists will use many excuses (Religion, Race, Gender etc) to get what they want. As socialists we have to do our best to smash these organisations that use sectarianism and racism to build their support.
...but that's just my point of view.

I think the right have some great cannon fodder for future propaganda wars. I vote RF32 for the post of organiser/ strategist with 50 stewards at your disposal

I totally agree,we have to smash those organisations, but we have to use our heads not our fists.I do think allot of neo-nazi nationalists were there yesterday as ive heard reports of forign people getting a hard time,i didnt go in myself as i couldnt get off work, but im delighted i didnt.
There still seems to be allot of support for right-thinking republicans, should the left distance ourselfves from them?I seen a few IRSP posters amongst the crowd,i just hope they dont get tagged with the same brush as they seem to be the only decent socialist repubicans with an ounce of brains left.
RSF planned this all wrong in my view,i totally agree they shouldnt have been let down o'connoll st but that doesnt mean i should support the way it was done.Dublin republicanism has been dealth a nasty blow,it has linked itself with celtic wearing sectarian thugs,it will be a long time before the people of the city forget that link!

[/quote] ;D ;D ;D I think a well organised sit down protest would have been ideal for this sort of situation. That way anything that does happen can't be blamed on those horrible Republican demons! Any attempt to do so would be brushed aside by normal people as right wing. Although you'll always get the odd one who is very easily provoked and there are others who would follow. It's up to Republicans to distance themselves from this activity.

I just want to say I think the riots were a disgrace, I mean come on, how dare those scumbags trash and burn our capital city in our name. These people seem to think they and only know what is best for the Irish people, when in fact they don't have a clue and they never will. I was in Dublin when the riots broke out, and was quite pissed off when it took us 40 minutes to walk from Temple bar to Busáras because everywhere we turned was blocked off by riot cops. We were Irish citizens, this was our country and our city and these were our streets too, and yesterday we were told we couldn't walk them for our own safety because of the rioters. Yesterday we all witnessed the burning of IRISH cars, the trashing of IRISH buildings, the assaulting of IRISH guards and ultimately, the shaming of the IRISH capital. Some fucking Republicans they were. BTW, just so you know, I don't think the Orang emarch shouldn't have been allowed to go ahead either. I would ellaborate here, but I gotta go now, sorry! I will post later to vent my opinions on this.

I agree the people who took part in the anarchy were not republicans, this counter protest was hijacked by local youths and thugs pouring out of the pubs (according to bertie also),it was bound to happen, the government should not be forgiven for trying to force a sectarian parade down our capital. I have heard accounts of how the garda kicked this all off by there unprofessionalism and savage approach,i have no beef with any republican defending there right to stand peacefully and protest, what i do have a problem with is the idiots who ran amuck after the initial squirmish had finished. i think its vital to make the difference between the two groups of people who took part,i know for a fact that there was respectable republicans there doing there bit to protest at this sectarian parade and i applaude them, they stood there to protect our society from allowing these scum to wingle there way amongst us long after we got rid of there racist ideology!
