The left in Ireland is very sectarian, the swp dont work with the erps and RSF wont work with, well anybody! I was thinking a way to start making conections would be to start a social club for ALL radicals. If a bunch of people who each represented different strands of the left went out for a pint you would be surprised how personal relationships would start up and they would begin talking politics. Is it a runner guys or what? would you turn up if we had a night in Dublin as our first meet up?

It would end up in a brawl. Leninists and anarchists in the one room, thered be a massacre.
Wed be barred from every pub in Dublin - no travellers no dogs no radicals would be the sign outside ;D
To be honest though, I dont drink myself and im not mad about pubs, infact I hate them. Call me a dryshite or a party pooper if you want.
I think the best place for activists and building unity is at pickets and protests. But your idea is good. Activists, or politically minded people usually end up in the same pub after an event anyway - be it in different corners. Get a few scoops into them and theyl have a sing along together, or a digamatch depending on the personalities.

ideally it would be swell to attract folks who are maybe independents, so they will be a bit more laid back...?

RSF wont work with, well anybody! do you think they would label this a broad front? The funny thing is, they will work with broad fronts, but only if they're crap. theyre scared to be seen standing next to any other party because their irrational policies would seem that much crazier lol.

What if the meet up wasnt in a pub then, and we went paint balling instead? We could practice for the revolution? haha. It doesnt have to revolve around the pub,we could go historical places or coffee shops. Or have read-ins or discuss a certain book, debates, informal ofcourse.

Ha ha, yeah, we'll be 'laid back' in the bushes with an air gun until the paint balls start flyin. Then we can run through the forrest screaming, at the top of our lungs, 'stop shooting! stop shooting! I'm on your team ya crazy bollix!'
What if we're up against a few 'reformed' provos who have plenty of experience and who've just come out because they know they can shoot a few young commies!

If it can't be dealt with politically then they're best left in isolation. I don't believe personal friendship can substitute politics.

Do you not think that some people let personal differences get in the way of political activity? For instance, those who take constructive criticism and see it as a personal attack, its the so called personal attack that sways them in not getting more involved with the movement where it came from, not necessarily their particular politics. If the sniping and name calling was put aside do you not think it would atleast help build bridges within the Irish left?
