Do you think the emotions Envy and jealousy are reactions to the capitalist society we live in today or are they natural?. Envy is when you want something somebody has,Jealousy is when you dont want someone to have something you have.To me this mind set would vanish in a Communist society. Can anyone think of any other emotions society take as "natural" that are reactions to the society we live in and would change when that society changes? What about anger or fear?

hmm, interesting topic...
I wouldn't say that they're products of capitalist society, but I think it's a safe bet they're greatly magnified by it. we'd all be a bit happier if we set our sites a bit lower and settled for less, but consumerism tells us we're only complete if we consume way more than we need.

I'm not sure if these emotions would vanish but I would agree that there would be a lot less hostility towards our fellow man/woman within a communist society. Capitalism certainly brings these emotions out more.

Im not too sure guys,im talking about a communist society not socialism. I honestly think that these emotions are tied in with the selfish attitude of capitalism. Our society pits man against man, competition is the order of the day. If there was no competition in schools etc.. would this not change these emotions of envy towards other men and women. After all,if you believe you are recieveing what you are owed then envy and jeolously wouldnt be an issue would it?

probably in most situations you'd be correct.
but maybe you like a girl and she doesn't fancy you so you feel jealous...
or maybe in a communist society we'd all be taught to have lower expectations and be happy with what we have...
too many unknown variables to say I think, any of us could be rigth about this one. We won't know till we get there.
