That's all true, but in a modern day society the Capitalist propaganda machine is in full swing and that's something we have to contend with. The right wing control most of the media (especially in Ireland), the only real medium we have is the internet. A lot of people believe most of what they hear on TV and Radio and use those right wing arguments against socialism even though they don't fully understand it.

You can see the gap between the have's and the have not's taking a more physical nature with the recent dublin riots,i agreed with the opinion that they were the forgotten youth of the celtic tiger,I do believe a socialist society is more promising once we can point to the corrupt system that is in place in ireland now,the more money the capitalist gets the better our propaganda,we should use this propaganda the way Caoimhain suggested,we need to find alternarive ways of getting our point across IE internet/guerrilla media tactics.A good idea is to use a personal blog intelligently so that it is in fact propaganda for your political beliefs,Caoimhain got me thinking aboutusing a blog as propaganda and i hope others take the same advice,if we all link to each other it will strenghten the benefits of it!

This discussion is all getting a little to intelligent and complicated for me lads. I think you's have fried my brain! Easily done ;D Ye, I know the feeling. But there is a serious point to this. What is heating up one brain is heating up hundreds of millions of brains around the planet. As you know the ruling 'ideas' are the ideas if the ruling class and as long as it appearers strong and invincible its culture is likely to hold sway. The problem they have now is that the world economy that affects EVERYONE without exception, really is starting to look extremely shaky. Even the most 'respected' economists are competing with each other at predicting the $ collapse. Also, the inability of the military in the US and UK to pull off a clean victory anywhere and the exposures of just what a lying shower of useless hypocrites they all are, is definitely causing some hot thinking everywhere, even if it is not yet being translated into action. So I guess 'fried brains' will be at the top of the menu for all of us.

Welcome to the board tim, I agree with you totally,I also read that in the new countries to join the EU which where previously "communist" it is still widely believed that communism is the best way to go.Also the fact that people are turning there backs on religion is a good step too,It doesnt have the same controll over the peoples minds as it used to,well atleast in Ireland. Its up to us to keep up our propaganda and try to turn a few more people red before the shit hits the fan

Interesting you should say that about religion. I have recently been trying to talk to some Muslims and others on the 'Islamic' site. Its interesting and a good source of information, but a bit like punching fog. Patience is needed so I'm taking a break for a bit. Most of them are very middle class Americans and just cant grasp that the 'upheavals' going on across the Middle East etc, aren't driven by religion although superficially it looks that way.
Before reading the arguments between all the competing sectarian religious factions, I never really grasped just how self loathing, pessimistic and patronising so much religious sentiment is. I think everyone should practice whatever religious faith they want, but the blinkers it puts on any understanding of why the poor 'riot' for instance, has to be seen.
Anyway, we're all buggered up with old cultural hangovers of one kind or another and it's never stopped the struggle for all round better theory and wining it. Tim

Nationalism by its very nature can only be acheived with right-wing policies and strategies, unless you want a socially inclusive United Ireland, with Democratic rights for minority citizens.. That wouldn't work, it would be more violent than the situation we have now! Sinn Fein are a Nationalist Fascist party, and they seem to be the main contenders. I don't see Ireland as a Socialist-run state being given the same position it has in the EU!
