Id like anyone who is a socialist and reads this board to try explain why in there view socialism and republicanism go hand in hand.
Ive been getting a roasting on another republican forum over socialism and im completely baffled why someone would claim to be a republican and not support socialism in some form.If i can get a few people to post there opinions here then maybe i can link it to back my comments up.

It's my view that Republicanism is inherently socialist. It is a working class ideology which often calls for a '32 County Socialist Republic'. If Irish Republicanism is not socialist, you'll end up getting what we have in the U.S. which is also a republic or you’ll end up getting Fianna Fail's idea of a Republic. Whether or not Republicanism is a Socialist ideology is less important than the fact that it should be. Without socialism, Irish Republicanism doesn't work and is a superfluous ideology. The republic should be built on the needs of the people and not the needs of private tyrannies/ big business. At the moment the needs of the people takes a back seat against the need for profit. Not so in a Socialist Republic. If Republicanism is not socialist or has nothing to do with it, why use the image of a communist (che guevara) or a socialist (James Connolly). These people giving you abuse prolly don't even know what socialism is. Tell them to read Connolly, Costello, Chomsky and Lennin and then get back to you! Go to the IRSM site www.irsm.org/ and read Seamus Costello's arguments on the subject. That's what made me think hard about it.
