16 Thomas Cook workers as well as 9 union representatives who staged a sit in protesting about the fact that they were kicked out of the shop over a month before they were told the shop was going to close, as well as the inadequate redundancy package they were offered, were arrested yesterday when Gardai broke into the Thomas Cook shop they had occupied.
One pregnant protester was taken to hospital and gave birth to a baby girl who she called 'Chelsea'. Her partner, who had joined the protest to support her, had also been arrested.
It just goes to show how the rich are looked after in this country whilst the poor are pushed deeper into poverty. The public has to realise that the state/ the Government is at war with it's public and that the Government who hold power will never make the wealthy pay unless they are forced to by the people in a mass mobilisation. I'm sure they'll find some fall guys for the Banks scandal.
They capped Bankers salaries at 500,000euro per year but that just sets in stone that the bankers are guaranteed at least 500,000euro per year. Were they guaranteed this before? I'd love if they capped my salary at 500,000euro per year. It would be like winning the lotto every single year. Plus they'll get expenses, plus a pension. Is this supposed to be some sort of reprimand? It's a reward if anything.
Thomas Cook workers put in a lot of their time and effort for the company with no guarantee as to what they'll receive in the end. Were they offered another place in the company? Were they offered promotions? As far as I know they were only offered the door and a 10 minute notice. As far as I'm aware the company have to give 2 weeks notice before letting someone go. Has anyone brought this up? Can the workers go to the labour court about this?
The very least the company can do is give them what they are asking for.
