I was reading a speech by Noam Chomsky a while ago where he claimed that the USA is not a democracy but rather a Polyarchy. A nation state where the power is held by a three or more parties and where working people are not allowed to actively participate. Considering the fact that Labour, Sinn Fein, FF, FG, Greens and the PDs (before they broke up), even though are not the same, are all standing in support of the the current system, could Ireland also fall into this category of a Polyarchy? More on the Polyarchy: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyarchy

I think to say that the US is not a democracy is kind of (cant think of the word right now, but its messing with words?? ). I mean the USA is at least a form of democratic structure. I dont really get that polyarchy thing. Its for definite a plutocracy and oligarchy - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plutocracy - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oligarchy
