What did yo think of the budget?
It wasnt as bad as I expected tbh. For many, the increase in tax will be significant but for those with at least an average job its not a huge lot. One less holiday abroad maybe.
The upper rate of tax should have been much heavier than 9%.
Id far rather FF in power than FG thats for sure!
The media hype was unvelievable. "Worst budget in the history of the state" and all that.
Future budgets will be far more severe id say. This is just an introduction to what is to come.

We also have to take into account that alot of workers are doing short time now so their income is lowering as it is, the doubling of the levy will hit harder in this case. I noticed vincent browne laying into the capitalist economists again:)

I think the main thought for me is that it is a capitalist state and a capitalist budget. We will always have an unjust budget and injustices until we have a socialist economy - an economy where working people will be in control of the economy.
What is the point in accepting any budget from a small group of very powerful people who are the only ones who have a voice and have control of the entire economy.
We have no say in the budget. It is not a national budget it is a plan that says regular working people have to pay for the greed of the powerful. How much tax is Sean Quinn going to pay through this budget? How much are billionaires going to pay? The 'golden circle' and all that bs?

As socialists should we focus on this being a "greed" issue? - all the organisations CPI, SP refer to this. I find that one of the things when trying to explain to people about socialism is that they say "but people will always be greedy, its human nature". I find all this reference to greed counterproductive. We can explain these things in economic and structural terms. Its not necessarilly the bankers fault, or the capitalist, or the worker - but the system. The system which puts people - workers and capitalist - to act and relate to each other in a given way. Thats my opinion on it...

I agree here. it wouldn't matter if the people running the show were greedy or not, it's just how the system works. the contradiction at the heart of capitalism means the bosses have to continually shed costs, especially social wages.
