definitely some Marxists in the party,a nd their porgramme was great. I think the way they bulit the red base in their communities is a model for all socialists.

Another example that the "pure marxist party" as defined by ultra-leftists is not needed to create a party of the masses. More Marxists/Socialists should have joined the panthers instead of criticising it for not being marxist enough. The same can be applied to the Republican movements of the past and today.

If anyone can recommend a book that deals with the panthers id be very grateful, particularly one which deals with their organizational technique or a Marxist comment on the party.

I'd love to go and see what he has to say. I watched a good film on the Panthers last year (I think it was). I think it was just called The Black Panthers. The Black Panther PartyI've put some documentary links here - theplough.proboards57.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=othereducational&thread=1431&page=1 as I think there is a Black Panthers Documentary somewhere there.

No, it's not Bobby Seale speaking there, it's another ex-Panther (and probably ex-BLA, too) who abandoned that ideology for anarchism. Bobby Seale is still for forming parties and electoral invterventions and that kind of activism. I've seen him speak in person and came away impressed. The crowd that came out to hear him was huge, too.
