US Fomenting War in Nicaragua, says President Ortega
Managua, May 1 (Prensa Latina) Nicaragua President Daniel Ortega denounced the war against his government by the United States through its embassy in Managua.
Addressing a rally held last night in Managua to celebrate International Workers Day, the Sandinista leader promised to disclose, in due time, the names of the agents being paid millions of dollars by Washington to organize anti-government protests. Ortega claimed the enemies of the Sandinista Revolution "are worried because people are not taking to the streets to protest against our revolutionary government."
According to the Nicaraguan President, his enemies want to repeat in Nicaragua what they did against Chilean president Salvador Allende, who was overthrown by a military coup in September, 1973.
He said right-wing groups funded with millions of dollars from abroad are trying to create an image of chaos within the country.
"We even know the exact amount of money and the name of the organizations that will fund the so-called Alianza Democratica (Democratic Alliance)," he said.
Ortega also denounced US-led policy against Cuba and Venezuela, and requested the release of five Cuban nationals unjustly held in US prisons for fighting terrorist acts by Miami-based anti-Cuban groups.
The May Day rally in Nicaragua marked also the beginning of the celebrations for the 29th anniversary of the July 19 Sandinista Revolution in 1979.
