Good bit of video here. I like the way they referred to him as a Commie instead of watering it down. He was one of us lads, we should be proud! ;D 'music is propaganda'. I couldn't agree more Luke. May your memory live on. I'm going to get that on a T-shirt actually. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WueysWCIq9c

Im sure him being a communist is something alot of people who know and like the Dubliners music arnt aware of.
Im not much of a fan tbh of his music, and im not aware of any songs which are "communistic" - but then again I dont know much about him or the dubliners ;D
But yeah, lots of people are fans of their/his music and he would be influential.

He sang a lot of workers' songs. 'Rising of the moon' - sang by James Larkin apparently, Sam Hall, The Blantyre Explosion, Joe Hill, The Travelling people (more socialist than Nationalist for instance), Mcalpines Fusiliers and he also sang many songs of resistance. I've always seen him as left-leaning at least and I think it's good to have someone like that brought to world recognition by playing traditional music in Ireland.
I wonder, though, would a band like the Dubliners get as much recognition today than the did back when they started?
