Serious - despite the decoration. Kribs @ Belfast N. Ireland, Homelessyoutube.com/watch?v=uBeuk5Dt4DwOut of curiosity, did anyone ever sleep on the streets for a day or two, or longer even?

thats rough living, but why spend what little money you have on drugs? i've never had to sleep in the streets, but i've seen too many homeless people that have. it bothers me seeing some people spend so much money on pampering their pets, without giving a care in the world when an astonishing number of people can't get a bite to eat, or a place to sleep.

Im hoping to do some work with dublin homeless soon, the fact that i work alot of weekends is stopping me at the moment but im looking into it,its a discrace that Ireland is the 2nd richest country in europe and we still have people without a home, something that is a basic human right!

Fair play to you, and good luck with it! My uncle used to live on the streets all his life - on and off - untill he got bashed until brain damaged. He died partly due to the permanent damage done just 2 months ago.
People treat them like crap, and its not just Irish either, there's some outsiders on the street too. I remember hearing that 1 out of twelve living on the streets in London have a degree!. Anyone and everyone is out there - we are all suceptable.

Alot of them dont use drugs. A huge portion would drink. Probably because of their circumstances. many would have come from "turbulent" backgrounds, others maybe separated from partners (lost custody fo children, lost house), others business may have went bust, others kicked from house etc etc.
So they would have a rough time. people turn to drink and drugs to ease the pain and escape the reality of life. We cant blame them though - society is at fault.

Agreed, but you also have to help yourself before you expect help from society. I've never been put in that position though, so it's different.

It's hard to help yourself when you haven't got a cent, are afraid to go into any buildings in case of being thrown out, have no address or 'fixed abode' and therefore can't get a job. People who say 'get a job' to homeless people just show their immense ignorance because the fact that they're homeless means that they, in fact, can't get a job and have no way of doing so.
I've often sat down with homeless people in Dublin city for a few hours and had chats with them. I've never met one who was on drugs but have been given many a drink and sandwhich from homeless people even though they know I'm probably a lot better off than they. I've often been stunned by their generosity and never met a homeless person who wasn't willing to have a chat with me.
