It has been decided lately that Fianna will operate on a republican and socialist basis. It has been decided?! What is said organisation going to decide tomorrow? It is my view that Irish Republicanism is, fundamentally, a socialist ideology. i.e. The people of Ireland fighting against imperialism in order to build a republic run by the people, for the people. The right to self-determination, the right to live and work in a free and just society. If Irish Republicanism is not based on human need, it is completely redundant. As such, all Irish Republican organisations must embrace socialism in order to even recognise the basis of their struggle. So there's nothing to decide. That would be like me deciding I'm a man.
