PKK are now serve as a comprador movement - no longer do they speak of an independent Kurdistan but of 'democratic confederalism'. It is not surprising in this context that recently Ógra Shinn Féin opened relations with the PKK. I could be wrong, but it seems they have used this bargaining of principles in an attempt to secure the release of the PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan. There is a very large cult around Öcalan that has been expressed through the popular slogan "Biji Serok Apo" (Long live leader Apo). In this context, I am not too certain as to the internal debate surrounding the current PKK ceasefire and direction but would imagine it is stifled by the cult around Öcalan. There are a few other party / army organisations active in Turkish Kurdistan that are worthy of a brief mention. MLKPMarxist-Leninist Communist Party (uphold the line of Stalin, Enver Hoxha and Socialist Albania).www.mlkp.infoDHKCRevolutionary Peoples Liberation Front (General leftist, does not seem to be as heavily into Lenin, Marx or ideological work as other organisations)www.dhkc.netTKP/MLCommunist Party of Turkey / Marxist-Leninist (Hardline Maoist organisation, outside of the RIM)www.tkpml.org

Excellent VP, great to have your knowledge at our disposal. I had heard that about the PKK alright, taking a reformist route. The article i was reading questioned if they were ever a revolutionary movement at all, it made me think of how PSF used working class politics at a certain time to gain support and get a mandate. Now that they are after the middle class vote all there talk of a socialist republic has vanished.

Here's a recent documentary about the current PKK situation on Youtube, though part four is miossing. Part One: www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKQ6LYkbtw4Part Two: www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFN7pRabN7gPart Three: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SlitGLbznwThey are an odd bunch alright. From the vids, guerrilla's are not to have sex until they do a course (if I heard it correctly), or until the "revolution comes"!!!. And VP is right, their obsession with their leader cant be healthy at-all. Though whether they are taking a peaceful path I wouldnt be too sure on. They want to take it, but as this video mentions, Turkey wants them eliminated. Just two weeks ago it was reported on the news that a top Turkish general wanted permission by the US to attack kurdish positions in north Iraq. This is not a climate which will result in the ending of the PKK. By the way, I just came back from Turkey yesterday. Talk about cult of personality en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ataturk
