Comrades,
The purpose of this board is to educate ourselves in the tradition of the Ulster Scots. We see a difference in this culture and that of Loyalism/Unionism. We believe this culture should be understood and celebrated just as equally as any other in Ireland. However, do not think we are trying to appese Loyalism, we are totally opposed to Loyalism and have no problem saying so!

you've no idea how refreshing a statement like that is!!!! culture, history and family are a truth and something we can look to for inspiration, learning and even some pride. nationalism is a construct of the state created to make the population more maneagable. ulster scots history and heritage has been trailed down into the dirt of northern irish politics. sectarian irish nationalists berate it and unionists try to stamp it with a facist and british/ulster nationalist identity.
I fear it is becoming a by word for orangism though. the orange order have clung onto it and dont want to share or let go, using it as their own little aryan race.
After all ulster scots culture has been claimed as the foundations of plan B: When the brits finally cut them loose (or they finally realise that britain dosent want ulster anymore) they will build ULSTER NATIONALISM on it!
If it could be accepted as a part of a multi cultured modern ireland that could stop them!
