CELTIC FANS AGAINST FASCISM
Summer 2006 Bulletin
Paulo Di Canio badges
It has been noted that a merchandise trader near Celtic Park has been flogging badges showing the Lazio player Paulo Di Canio giving a fascist salute. The sale and wearing of fascist memorabilia has long been unacceptable to most Celtic supporters. We would encourage fans to challenge badge sellers hawking this stuff to desist immediately and also to challenge immature younger fans who might think it “cool” to wear such badges,
All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.
Rudi Skacel song
Many fans are reporting that at the last match v Hearts individual supporters were chanting stuff about Rudi Skacel being a refugee. This is totally unacceptable and whilst we accept there is no way the vast majority of the support would ever chant such filth in unison, individual idiots must be challenged. The Irish community in Scotland are descended from the biggest mass movement of economic refugees the world has seen in the generations that followed the Great Hunger. Let us never forget that and welcome all newcomers coming to Scotland escaping persecution and torture at home.
Sectarianism
There has been much hype in the media about 'sectarianism' in the “Old Firm”. We believe that the recent joint display by fans of both clubs was ill-advised. The two supporters organisations that took part involved themselves in an 'Old Firm' public relations stunt aimed more at pleasing the heads at UEFA heads rather than winning hearts and minds in the stands. Only genuine fan-based action on questions of racism, fascism and sectarianism will have any long term effect.
Let us be clear: Celtic is and always has been an inclusive club.
This is a problem of Rangers' own making and history and we should not allow ourselves to be dragged into publicity stunts which feed the press line of One Side’s As Bad As the Other. The Celtic support DO NOT indulge in sectarian singing, they sing political songs of Irish freedom.
However some individual idiots continue to chant the wrong words to:
The One Road: The final line of the chorus should be DUBLIN, BELFAST, CORK AND DONEGAL not anything else!
The Soldiers Song: The final lines are IN ERIN’S CAUSE COME WOE OR WEAL, MID-CANNON ROAR AND RIFLES PEAL not anything else!
Roamin in the Gloamin: CFAF believe this song IS sectarian and should not be sung at all.
