As most are aware on this board, Socialism is mainly based on looking after human need over human greed. At the time of Marx and (Robert) Owen (Who some claim was the first revolutionary socialist leader) the idea of human need was quite small. Need mainly involved decent food, warm clothes and a place to lay your head at night perhaps.
As we all know many people all over the world are even deprived of these ‘luxuries’ today. But under socialism, a political system in which the poverty stricken people of today should quickly be liberated, do you think the idea of human need has changed?
For instance, human need today could be seen as a right to a family home, to be granted internet access, telephone points, television points in the family home, a mode of transportation for bringing their children to school, excellent working public transport, an excellent infrastructure that would ensure traffic was always free flowing, health and education to be the world renowned, the right to self expression and conditions to cater for this. Do you think all of this would be a given?
Everyone pays taxes on all of their income and expenditure (Labour roughly estimated tax revenue at €42bn in 2006 by the way. That’s 9 zeros after the 42), why shouldn’t we be able to enjoy the fruits of those taxes? Isn’t it our money? Where does it go? What are the government going to do with €42,000,000,000 in 2006? Shouldn’t every person in the country be given a web site where they can check their figures?
Just a few questions to keep you thinking there ;D
