Free the IRSP comrades, now!
The following is a statement from the International Executive Committee of
the Free People’s Movement on the recent arrests of two members of the
Irish Republic Socialist Party in the Waterford area of Ireland.
The Free People’s Movement condemns in the strongest possible terms the
arrest of two comrades of the Irish Republic Socialist Party – James
Butler and John O’Donoghue – in the Waterford area of Ireland by the
Gardai special branch in June.
The arrests of these comrades, under section thirty of the Offences
Against the State Act, was clearly aimed at disrupting the activity of the
Irish Republican Socialist Party and others who dare to challenge the
British imperialists’ occupation of the six counties in the north of
Ireland.
The related attempts to paint the comrades of the Irish Republican
Socialist Party as petty gangsters are as absurd as they are false.
Comrades Butler and O’Donoghue are being held for their alleged membership
in the Irish National Liberation Army, something they both denied when
charged. Whether or not these comrades belong to the Irish National
Liberation Army is of no concern to us.
We long for peace, and the day when there will be no need for armed forces
such as the Irish National Liberation Army, but the current historical
situation – in which the oppressors of the masses of people around the
world hold up their rule with well armed bodies – necessitates them.
We make no secret of lending our full support to the Irish Republican
Socialist Party in its just struggle to oust the British imperialists,
overthrow the oppressive capitalism system, and create a new, socialist,
thirty-two county Workers’ Republic. As a part of this support, we call
for the immediate release of not only the two comrades recently arrested,
but for all republican prisoners of war currently be held in Irish and
British prisons.
We encourage working people around the world, as well as their allies, to
organize to win the freedom of all Irish Republican POWs.
Victory to the Irish revolution!
