Dublin 32CSM condemns upsurge in harassment
The Dublin branch of the 32 county sovereignty movement condemns the recent upsurge in harassment of our members and their families by the Free State special branch.
At a time when this County and indeed our Country as a whole is rampant with the sale of drugs, and feud related assassinations are now all to common, enormous gardai resources are being deployed for the out and out harassment of republicans. Not content to concentrate their efforts on our members the special branch have stepped up their campaign to include anyone who comes remotely in contact with members, family, friends work colleagues and employers.
This has resulted in the loss of jobs for republicans trying to provide for their families and the alienation of friends and colleagues for fear of also losing their jobs. It is not uncommon to pass a group of people on a street corner selling drugs and continue up the road to find a young republican being searched by armed detectives, for the serious crime of handing out leaflets containing content not in line with Fianna Fail or Sinn Fein policy.
For any citizen of Dublin who has campaigned fervently for more resources to tackle the drug dealers who have layne siege to our communities they need look no further than the offices of the 32csm or the recent republican commemorations to see what is priority policing in the eyes of the minister for justice. In a recent incident a young mans father was stopped by detectives who threatened to close his business down, his sons crime his attendance at an Easter commemoration not organised by the Free State government.
Another incident saw detectives call to the home of a republicans work colleague causing considerable distress to the young man and his family. The special branch have also widened this campaign recently to include uniformed members of an Gardai Siochona with republicans being stopped on a daily basis for non existing traffic offences with one republican being forced to produce his driving documentation at his local station three times in the space of a week.
It seems there is no depths the free state will not sink to suppress free speech, at the recent annual Easter commemoration at arbour hill 32csm members who waited for over an our to allow the free state forces carry out their own Easter parade entered the cemetery to find the national flag had been removed from the mast at the graves of the 1916 leaders much to the amusement of the 15 special branch men in attendance, this despicable act of small mindedness which broke the age long tradition of the flying of the flag from dawn until dusk shows the absolute disregard for the tradition of republicanism which this hypocritical government claims to now uphold.
We in the Dublin branch of the 32csm would like to ask the minister for justice, is this, what the leaders of the 1916 rising whom you now conveniently uphold as heroes died for.
Are we now living in a police state where the expression of opinions not in keeping with the current government policy is tantamount to offences against the state?
Is it justifiable to illegally attack young men and their families in the pursuit of a political agenda? Our message is clear we will continue to build, and we will not allow these acts of bullying to distract us from our goals for if history tells us anything it is that oppression breed’s resistance.
