Unionists slam planned British attendance at Rising event 14/03/2006 - 14:17:20
Unionists in the North have criticised a decision by the British Embassy in Dublin to send an official representative to the Republic's planned Easter Rising commemoration.
The DUP's Jeffrey Donaldson has accused the embassy of agreeing to participate in an event commemorating an act of terrorism against the British state.
Mr Donaldson claimed the Easter Rising event was a celebration of the deaths of British soldiers, police officers and innocent civilians.
The UUP's deputy leader, Danny Kennedy, meanwhile, said it was astonishing that the British government would even acknowledge the Rising, let alone take part in a commemoration.

I don't agree with unionists on much, if anything (as most are liar capitalists and are using people and exploiting their beliefs and opinion to get what they want) but I have to agree it is astonishing that they are recognising the rising at all.
I suppose this is just another step in the slow integration of the business societies in Ireland and Britain. The friendlier the Irish and British capitalist class get, the more (dirty) business they can do together, exploit working people and build a more superior ruling class than other countries. It's the new Imperialism and it's profitable for most governments.
War is an inferior and too blatant a tactic of imperialism these days, the real genius of imperialism is through capitalism and exploitation, taking over countries by signing free trade agreements. The only reason they invaded Iraq is to capture oil reserves which they couldn't do through business as Saddam stopped using dollars to trade in oil.
Republicans should boycott the state's celebrations or protest at it with red flags and tri-colours. The hypocrisy of a state celebration of the rising is too much to even talk about!
