Note
It is very hypocritical of Gordon Brown to 'absolutely condemn' British Citizens who abuse armed forces after they have been involved, under his command in, what can only be categorised as terrorist actions in Iraq (especially after the reported stories, backed up by witnesses statements, of massacres of unarmed civlians by British forces). It is not 'members of the public' who are involved in war crimes and Gordon Brown only condemns the public's actions because abuse of soldiers is to attack Government actions and policy. The public are those who vote, who have the power and the public's voice should be listened to. How dare Gordon Brown say that he condemns members of the public. What a fascist!

Service personnel at an RAF base have been told not to wear their uniforms in public because of abuse by anti-war locals.
The Ministry of Defence said senior officers at RAF Wittering near Peterborough, Cambs, fear that airmen and women will be targeted by people who oppose British involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq.
A MoD spokesman said the decision was a local one made by station commanders and that generally soldiers, airmen and sailors were encouraged to wear uniforms in public.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown said Britain's Armed Forces should be "encouraged to wear their uniform in public and have the respect and gratitude of the British people".
Speaking in Downing Street, Mr Brown said: "I condemn absolutely any members of the public who show abuse or discrimination to our Armed Forces."
And Defence Secretary Des Browne described the situation as a "great shame".
He said: "We must defend our Forces' right to wear their uniforms in public," said Mr Browne. It is a great shame that some individuals in this community don't respect our forces - who are daily doing a great deal for this nation.
"This is not a situation we should tolerate. We learned about this today and are investigating it as a matter of urgency.
"I hope that by working closely with Peterborough City Council and the local police, service personnel at RAF Wittering will soon be able to wear their uniforms freely about the town with the support of the local people."
A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire Police said she was not aware of any incidents of servicemen being attacked or abused in Peterborough.
