Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign
Press Release
20 Nov 2007
Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign launches One-in-1000 campaign.
This week 1000 people in Ireland will receive an unexpected gift in the post courtesy of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC). The IPSC has launched a campaign called One-in-1000 to raise awareness of the plight of the Palestinian people and the important role which people in Ireland can play in helping to bring justice and peace to Palestine/Israel.
The IPSC will distribute copies of the multi award-winning documentary film ‘Occupation 101’ and an information booklet to 1000 people of influence all over Ireland. Those targeted by the campaign include religious leaders, politicians, journalists, trade unionists, business leaders, jewellers, farmers, doctors, nurses, civil society organisations, musicians, artists, actors and others. The European premiere of ‘Occupation 101’ was held in Liberty Hall Theatre in Dublin on Tuesday 6th November. The film is a thought-provoking and powerful documentary on the current and historical root causes of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It provides a comprehensive analysis of the facts and hidden truths surrounding the conflict, dispelling many myths and misconceptions and revealing the extent of U.S. government involvement
The increasingly desperate conditions Palestinians are forced to endure under Israeli subjugation and the failure of Western governments to hold Israel to account for its crimes against humanity requires urgent action by civil society to encourage Israel to change its behaviour. Civil society in Ireland has an important role to play by supporting the call from Palestinians for an international campaign of boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel similar to that which helped end apartheid in South Africa.
The IPSC hope that those who receive the film will encourage others to watch it and learn about the history of Palestinian suffering and oppression. Growing public awareness will encourage our politicians at home and in Europe to take action that will persuade Israel to respect international law and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
