Thanks for posting this Jordan. Just goes to show that these problems, which are caused by Governmental rule, are not exclusive to the capitalist cesspit they call Ireland. The British and Irish Governments are so alike that it's horrible. We've come around full circle. What has changed since 1922 or 1916? We're still ruled by the same type of scumbags who'd rather watch someone die that give some money back to the people. Shame!

Id love to see republican socialists markign this womans death with some sort of memorial,to highlight her bravery and courage. Even a pamphlet handed out would be nice gesture, what do you think guys? I think this is a great idea. We keep on talking about making a publication but, as yet, haven't done anything on it. So I think this should be our first order of business. We have a good bit of information on this thread for a starting point. The main thing we need to agree on is how it should be written. Should we write an introduction on Suzie long and then the rest on the problems of a two-tier health system? Mary Harney's policies and who those policies have always benefited? Or the anti-working class policies of the Government as a whole? I think we need a basic structure for the pamphlet and I'm open to suggestions...?

I think we should try touch on all of those points mate, the susie long story might be old news by the time we get this out though (without sounding disrespectfull) so we will have to think if we should make her a central aspect to the leaflet or just a small aspect? Is it the two-tier system going to be central or is this woman?

Perhaps if we highlight how it is Capitalism or primarily minority Government control of the economy is the main reason this woman died. The Government had everything available to them to keep people like her alive yet she died because money was deliberately kept from public health care.
It was Government control that killed this woman and not her disease. We've all read a recent post in which she talks about the guy who recovered from his illness because he opted for private health care. I think this confirms it.
I think there should also be a number of other topics. Perhaps if we highlight how the Government hates Democracy and that Democracy is only possible within Socialism/ workers control. We could even quote Noam Chomsky here who, when talking about the Irish Government, outlined how the elite hates democracy.
I remember a few years ago being confused when the Irps stated that there is 'no parliamentary road to socialism'. I thought, 'how else could you run a country?' and thought they were slightly nutty on this subject. Today, I think this is the most important aspect of socialism. Get rid of the Government first, then we can build socialism. The Government or the elite who control the economy without the involvement of the majority are the biggest obstacle to building socialism or a Socialist Republic which was fought for in 1916. I believe Socialism IS Democracy and that you can't have one without the other or else you'll have minority control of democracy - which is anti-democratic.
;D
