It was revealed today that public money from FAS was used to pay for Mary Harney's hair do, nail and grooming bill in Florida. It must be great being in Government where you can steal €45,000 for make up (Bertie) and over €400 of tax payers money just to beautify yourself whilst 25% of the population are "at risk of poverty" according to Michael McDowell in 2006 when the Celtic Tiger was in full swing and the country had a surplus (profit) of €166bn. It must be a tough job to spend all that money because in 2007 there was a deficit (loss) of over €200million.
It was revealed last year that it costs over €10million a year to pay Government ministers. They can also avail of €50,000 - €80,000 a year each to run a constituency office as well as expense accounts which have been known to cost the tax payer over €80,000 in a year on top of their salary of between €93,000 and €101,000. So Government ministers have the luxury of being able to earn almost €200,000 if they play their cards right.
Wouldn't the people of Ireland be better off getting rid of them and saving themselves a LOT of money and gaining a MUCH better standard of living?
Maybe we should start a thread on the financial cost of Government?
